Discover Airlines lands in Alta, Norway for the first time

On December 4, Discover Airlines took off from Frankfurt to Alta (ALF) in Norway for the first time. The almost fully booked Airbus A320 with flight number 4Y1302 landed on time at Alta Airport after a flight time of around three and a half hours. With this new addition, Discover Airlines is expanding its portfolio with another destination in the Arctic region. At the same time, Alta is the northernmost European destination offered by the Lufthansa Group – a milestone in the continuous expansion of its northern and winter route network.
From December to mid-April, Discover Airlines will offer up to two weekly direct flights between Alta and Frankfurt. Every Thursday and Sunday, the leisure airline will provide the only direct route from Germany to the Nordic region. The full integration of Discover Airlines into the global route network of Lufthansa Group Airlines will make it much easier and more convenient for travelers to reach this special destination in the Arctic in the future.
Alta, the “City of the Northern Lights”
Alta is located in the province of Finnmark and is one of the northernmost cities in the world. Its proximity to the Arctic Circle makes the region one of the best places to observe the Northern Lights – which is why it is nicknamed the “City of the Northern Lights.” The Aurora Borealis is visible here from September to March, with the period from late November to mid-January being particularly spectacular due to the polar night: During this time, the sun does not rise and the chances of seeing the Northern Lights are especially high.
Alta is also a perfect starting point for winter activities such as dog sledding, Northern Lights safaris, ski expeditions, overnight stays in an igloo hotel, whale watching, and ice fishing.

High demand for destinations in northern Europe
Due to the high demand for Nordic destinations, the leisure airline’s usually predominantly sunny flight schedule has added additional destinations in northern Europe in recent months. Alta is the airline’s third destination in Norway and its fifth in northern Europe. In addition to year-round connections to Evenes (Norway), Kittilä (Finland), and Reykjavík (Iceland), Discover Airlines also offers seasonal flights to Bodø (Norway) from Munich in summer and will add a seasonal connection to Ålesund (Norway) from Frankfurt to its flight schedule in May 2026.
