From Monday, September 7, it will once again be possible to fly directly from West Denmark to Brussels, the headquarters of the European Commission. From this date, Billund based SUN-AIR will fly twice daily to Brussels from Billund Airport as a franchise partner for British Airways.

It departs Monday to Thursday at 08:00 from Billund Airport and with return flight from Brussels-Zaventem airport at 10:00. The afternoon rotation, which takes place on all five working days, departs from Billund at 15.25, and at 17.20 the plane returns to the international West Danish airport. Finally, an evening rotation is conducted on Sundays.

The well-known 32-seat Dornier 328JET, which SUN-AIR also uses on its other routes from Western Denmark, will be operating the flights.

Know the route from previous period

Since mid-March, it has not been possible to fly on the route from Billund, to the Belgian capital, as Brussels Airlines chose to put the entire fleet on the ground due to lack of demand and government restrictions.

At the same time, Brussels Airlines opted to terminate an agreement with the Irish wetlease airline, which has so far operated a number of routes for Brussels Airlines with the 90-seat Bombardier.

Interrupted cooperation with CityJet means that Brussels Airlines is missing five Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft, and this has resulted in the Billund route not reopening.

– We know that there is a continuing demand for a route to Brussels, and we flew it ourselves from 2004 to 2016, where we had to stop after the terrorist attack at the airport and at the same time Brussels Airlines made their entry on the route. We know the market, and when Brussels Airlines decided to withdraw, it was natural for us to look at it, says commercial director Kristian Tvergaard from SUN-AIR to CHECK-IN.dk.

He also emphasizes that SUN-AIR will take the necessary measures to ensure passenger safety. There will be extra cleaning of the planes and disinfection liquid will be available at boarding. In addition, catering will be served using disposable materials

Important destination

Although there is still considerable uncertainty about what the entire aviation market will look like in four and a half months, there was nevertheless joy in Billund Airport that SUN-AIR has been fast on the trigger and has ensured that Brussels does not disappear from the airport’s route map .

– Brussels is a really important destination for the Jutland business community and European politicians, so it is absolutely fantastic to have a base company like SUN-AIR, which can quickly close the gap and secure the two daily departures, says marketing manager Jesper Klausholm from Billund Airport

Bringing you exceptional service is SUN-AIRs highest priority. They therefore offer a full in-flight service on all our scheduled flights, including meals, snacks and drinks, newspapers, one item of baggage, hand baggage and excellent service.
