Oslo and Bergen in Norway, plus Genoa, Bari, and Verona in Italy, Bastia in Corsica, Zadar in Croatia, and the Greek island Corfu will be on the Iberia network map in 2019. The Spanish airline is also adding flights on existing routes in Europe, Africa, and Latin America. The year 2019 will also see the Iberia fleet enlarged by four A350-900s and five A320Neos.
In keeping with its growth strategy, the Iberia Group will be adding eight new destinations in the 2019 summer season and increased capacity on many existing routes.
In addition, the Spanish airline will take delivery of nine new aircraft next year –four A350-900s (the last will enter service in 2020) and five A320Neos, to handle the expanded operations and as part of the ongoing fleet renewal programme.
New Destinations in Europe
The Iberia Group is betting heavily on the European market next summer, by opening eight new routes, with its flights to Norway – Bergen starting on 1 June, and Oslo a fortnight later.
The Bergen route will remain active until 31 September, while Iberia will fly to Oslo all year round.
Italy is another prime market for Iberia, which will operate flights during the summer from Madrid to Genoa, while Iberia Express will fly twice weekly between Madrid and Bari. Iberia’s franchise partner Iberia Regional Air Nostrum will fly from Madrid to Verona in the month of August.
The Iberia Group will also launch summer flights to Bastia in Corsica, and to Zadar in Croatia. Lastly, in the month of August Iberia will operate flights to the Greek island of Corfu.
More Flights on Existing Routes in Europe, Africa, and Latin America
Together with the launch of these new destinations, Iberia will strengthen its offer to other cities already on its map.
The airline will increase its flights to Florence, Hamburg, Athens and Marrakesh from the current daily flight to 11 weekly flights during the summer season.
From the beginning of August, it will raise the number of flights to Dakar, from one daily flight to ten flights per week.
During next summer season, there will also be additional flights from Madrid to Dubrovnik, Zagreb, and Budapest, while Iberia operating the route from Madrid to Faro with larger aircraft.
In August, the route Madrid-Olbia (Sardinia) will add capacity as Iberia will replace the regional aircraft of Iberia Regional Air Nostrum.
In the long-haul category, next summer Iberia will raise the number of flights to Bogota from seven to ten per week.
The number of weekly flights to Montevideo and Rio de Janeiro will rise from five a week to daily, and Quito will also get a daily Iberia flight, one more per week than before. Iberia will add three flights per week on its Madrid-Lima route in July and August, for a total of ten flights a week.
The airline will put its A350-900s into service starting in late February on the Madrid-Buenos Aires route, and on the Madrid-Chicago route in May.
Aircraft equipped with Premium Economy seating sections will be used on flights to Havana and Johannesburg.
